We got the game reboot in 2013 and now we get the film reboot set for release in 2017. We all recall Angelina Jolie’s iconic 2001 ‘Lara Croft: Tomb Raider’ and the sequels that followed. While Jolie looked the part and played the badass, british, action hero well enough the films did not received the best reviews.
In 2017 we get to do it over and hopefully better. The plot for the 2017 remake will detail Lara Croft’s first adventure, much like the reboot game from 2013.
Norwegian filmmaker, Roar Uthaug will direct the Tomb Raider reboot and would be Uthaug’s English-language debut film. But his previous films, ‘The Wave’ ‘Cold Prey’ and ‘Escape’ leave little doubt in our mind that he is up to the challenge. Negotiations are in progress with Geneva Robertson-Dworet (co-writer on Transformers 5)to join the Tomb Raider team.
While we will miss Angelina’s scowl and lushes long braid, we are so excited to see who will be cast as Lara Croft 2.0. Here is our shortlist:
Game Of Thrones’ Emilia Clarke (29) could pull it off, she is actually british, and she played Sarah Connor in Terminator Genisys.
Phoebe Tonkin (26), Australian born and beautiful, plays the kickass werewolf in The CW’s ‘The Originals.’ And she is almost a clone of Lara Croft.
Ashley Greene (28) who played Alice Cullen in the Twilight saga.
Daisy Ridley (23) while also being an English actress, and the right age, could come across as too sweet innocent, but we will have to see what she does with her role of Rey in the 2015 film Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
More films based on games that will be coming soon:
Warcraft – June 10, 2016
Resident Evil: The Final Chapter – September 2, 2016
Assassin’s Creed – December 21, 2016
Metal Gear Solid – TBA
